“Do it.” His guttural voice was demanding as hell.

“Then what, Kellan? What happens next?”

“Are you naked underneath?” His lips twitched. “Are you bare, sweetheart?”

She was dressed in a short chemise. Of course she was naked, a fact she found disturbing then. She typically wore panties to bed. Had she subconsciously planned for something like this? Had she hoped for opportunity, anticipated it right from the start?

“Yes,” she finally replied.

“Let me see, Jade.” There was no play in his voice. He expected her to strip and if she followed his request, she’d soon find out what else he had in mind. On the flipside, if she didn’t remove the gown, then she’d never know.

The not knowing was more than she could stand.

His curiosity was enough to kill a damn mountain lion.

Jade’s timid ways, the way she’d moved against him, trying to find a comfortable—if not safe position, had spoken volumes and while he now wanted to do the right thing, they were long past the point of turning back.

Maybe she was innocent. Perhaps she was indeed untouched. And while he wanted to be respectful, he was also an interested man.

He longed to see what was underneath her gown. He wanted to touch and hold her, caress her until he knew the softness of her skin and she easily recognized his careful touch.

Kellan wanted to feel her hot breath at his ear, the way she moaned in delight as he brought her pleasure. And by damn, he would indeed bring her pleasure.

She disposed of her chemise. And in that very instant, Kellan’s future unfolded before him.

A lifeline was unnecessary. A man, even one who wanted to be saved, couldn’t be pulled from these dangerous waters.

Kellan had never seen anything more beautiful. And he’d never seen anyone so frightened. One look and he knew everything he needed to know about her intimate past.

She didn’t have one.

Reaching out to her, he tried not to act like an ass and just eat up the sight of her. While it was difficult, he somehow survived, pulling her back to the sofa without yanking her on top of him.

He even allowed her to cover up, which wasn’t an allowable act in his bed under normal circumstances. Then again, these circumstances were very different.

This young woman wasn’t experienced. As much as he’d tried to convince himself that she wanted him to look, he wasn’t so sure now. In fact, he would’ve staked a lot on one notion. If he’d suggested it, she would’ve gladly grabbed that gown and dressed much quicker than she’d stripped.

Nuzzling her hair, Kellan waited for her to settle down and curl up in his arms before he said, “You’re beautiful.”

She gripped the top of the blanket as if she were afraid to respond. This was one time when Kellan wished Reason would’ve beaten him to the punch.

Kellan didn’t know how to do virgins. He didn’t sleep with them. He didn’t wreck their worlds. He left them alone because—well, he was apparently as frightened of them as they were of him.

Cursing his prick for dancing in his jeans, he flipped to his back. Bringing her against him, he appreciated the softness of her rounded cheek against his prickly chest as she seemingly relaxed. It took more than a minute for Jade to act comfortable and he was certain of the theatrics in play then. She could bolt at any given time.

“Are you comfortable?”

“Yes.”

“Are you lying to me?” He peered down his nose, grinning at the gorgeous woman in his arms. The light in the hall was a treat. Even if nothing happened between them, he would enjoy watching her sleep. He looked forward to the morning possibilities as well.

God, he was losing his mind.

“Do you want me to lie to you, Kellan?”

“I don’t recommend it. Besides, I could make you tell me the truth.”

She shuddered and he grinned. His voice already affected her in some ways.

“Do you make yourother submissives tell you the truth?”

“I don’t have ‘other’ submissives.”

“But that’s what you like. Right?”

“What’s that?”

“Submissive women,” she replied, curving her arm around his waist.

He stilled then, questioning every action and every question. “What do you know about submissive women?”

“Not much,” she admitted. “But I’d be submissive to you.” Her honesty was enough to cripple the best of Doms, at least those who were bent on having a woman, and this woman might as well be collared or branded as his.

“A confession like that could get you in all sorts of trouble.”

“I’m not ready,” she said frankly.

“That’s a fact.” He tucked his fingers under her chin and lifted her lips to his. “But I’m not going anywhere.” He gave her a quick kiss. “And I’m not taking advantage of you.”

“I believe you.”

What’s New

I have a brand new novel out, the romantic suspense thriller Alicia’s Possession. I am so excited that it has been the publisher’s bestselling Romantic Suspense almost since its launch three weeks ago and the #1 bestselling BDSM—eeek!—for over a week!

In the story, Alicia has just awoken from a coma caused by a freak car crash, but now she has retrograde amnesia and cannot remember the accident or the weeks leading up to it. After finding out her husband had been having an affair, she has thrown him out and is living alone, dealing with the aftereffects of the head injury as well as major depression from the collapse of her marriage. Then she witnesses bizarre occurrences in and around her home. She thinks she hears gunshots in the middle of the night, and her neighbor mysteriously disappears. Then odd things begin to occur inside her own house, and she begins to believe her neighbor was murdered and is now haunting her. She calls the police to investigate, but the detective finds more questions than answers and doesn’t know if she’s paranoid or delusional or guilty of something herself. One thing he does recognize, though, is she needs someone to take care of her—take control—and he believes he is the man who can do it. This is my first foray into (extremely mild) BDSM, so it includes light bondage and Dominance and submission. Alicia’s Possession is available in all eBook formats from all the normal sources, and I can even inscribe your eBook! This link has info on that:

Alicia’s Possession:  Haunted by a traumatic accident and her husband’s betrayal, Alicia believes she can never trust again. Now she must surrender her will to Mason if she wants to find out if the bizarre events terrorizing her are the work of the paranormal, her own paranoia, or something far more sinister.

Also, my first release, Pulse and Prejudice—the paranormal adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic, which retells the story from Mr. Darcy’s point of view as a vampire—has just been released as an audiobook! (I understand these are very popular with people that go to those places with the machines that they get on to make them get all sweaty…gyms, I think they are called?)  The narrator Tim Campbell is amazing! You must listen to the sample, although it does not do justice to his range of voices—everything from an English Lord to a Covent Garden prostitute! Plus, if you don’t already have an Audible account, Amazon and Amazon UK have a special offer so you can actually get the audiobook of Pulse and Prejudice for free! Here is a link for the audio sample plus info on the free offer:  http://www.colettesaucier.com/pulse-and-prejudice/pulse-and-prejudice-audiobook-sample/

Of course, it is also still available in paperback and from all the typical eBook sources (I can inscribe it as well!). http://www.colettesaucier.com/pulse-prejudice/where-to-find-darcy-vampire/

Pulse and Prejudice: When the haughty and wealthy Fitzwilliam Darcy arrives in the rural county of Hertfordshire, he finds he cannot control his attraction to Elizabeth Bennet – a horrifying thought because, as she is too far below his social standing to ignite his heart, he fears she must appeal to the dark impulses he struggles to suppress.

Set against the vivid backdrop of historical Regency England, this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice follows the cursed Mr. Darcy as he endeavours to overcome both his love and his bloodlust for Miss Elizabeth Bennet.   Although Pulse and Prejudice adheres to the original plot and style of the Jane Austen classic, it is not a “mash-up” but an imaginative, thrilling variation told primarily from Mr. Darcy’s point of view as he descends into the seedier side of London and introduces Elizabeth to a world of passion and the paranormal she never knew existed.

Giveaways

This week, here on Natalie’s blog, I will be giving away one of each of my new releases:  An eBook of Alicia’s Possession (inscribed to you!) AND an Audiobook of Pulse and Prejudice! Please leave a comment stating if you have a preference, and please include your email address for when you win!

What’s Next

I am currently working on another romantic suspense thriller entitled The Widow (formerly Viuda) about a DEA agent who has been working undercover infiltrating the most ruthless drug cartel in the world for four years. After his primary target is murdered by a rival gang, he must convince that man’s widow to become a confidential informant to help bring the cartel down.

After that, I will return to the sequel to Pulse and Prejudice, which is entitled Dearest Bloodiest Elizabeth. I have written about a third of it, but I am at a place that requires in depth historical research, which I try to do when I can. After that, I have so many ideas, I don’t know which one I’ll pick up next!

Upcoming Conferences

August will be quite the busy month for me! First, on August 7th, I will be going to Las Vegas for the Romance Novel Convention. Then the following week I am off to Savannah for my second Authors After Dark conference. There I will be on a few panels, including discussions on—What else?—Paranormal and BDSM! After that, I’ll be staying home awhile until the Indie Romance Convention in October.

I hope to meet a lot of readers at these conferences! Be sure to find me and come say hi. I’m sure I’ll have some sort of swag to give you!

Excerpt from New Release: Alicia’s Possession

“What do you want?” she asked. “I don’t know what you want from me.”

Mason gripped her upper arms, forcing her eyes to meet his. He knew he’d made a mistake the moment her warmth bled through the silk of her robe and into his palms, sending a ripple of sensation up his arms and down his body. “Why did you lie about knowing Judith?” he asked, his voice low and gravelly but not in the terse tone he used to intimidate a witness. No, she might not recognize it, but he could hear his lust cradling each syllable.

She squeezed her eyes tight as if to prevent her tears’ escape, but instead it forced them down her cheeks. “I wasn’t lying. I don’t know her. I don’t remember her. I don’t remember anything.”

He lifted one hand from her arm and brushed the tears from her cheek with his thumb before running it across her bottom lip. Her eyes remained closed, and his chest rose and fell in rhythm with hers. He leaned in close enough to inhale her breath.

“Don’t,” she said without force.

He shuffled his feet forward the few inches required for his body to brush against her breasts. “How can you not remember?”

“Th-the accident.”

He brought his mouth down, barely touching hers, his tongue tasting the salt of tears on her lips—those lips he had wanted to kiss from the first moment they’d met.

“Please,” she said on a puff of air and tried to pull away from him, but he tightened his hold on her arm.

“Please what?”

“Please…don’t kiss me.”

“I think you want me to kiss you.” When she said nothing in protest, he pressed his lips to hers and gently pulled first her top, then her bottom lip into his mouth. He held her chin between his thumb and fist to lift her face.

Tears still streamed down her cheeks, but she opened her eyes and shook her head. “I…I can’t do this.”

Mason trailed his finger down her throat to the opening of her robe, stopping just over her heart, and she trembled with a hitch in her breath.

“What do you mean you didn’t remember her because of the accident?”

“I have…gaps, memory loss.” Her tears had begun to wane.

“I’m going to kiss you again.”

“No,” she whispered when his mouth hovered mere millimeters over hers. He dropped his hand from her arm to the small of her back and pulled her against him, and she gasped at the unmistakable evidence of his arousal. “I’m not ready for this.”

“Because of your injury?”

“Because of the infidelity. My husband. He hurt me.” Her words pinched his heart and he nodded. “I can’t be with a man—any man. I can’t trust anyone. I don’t even trust myself to have the sense or judgment to know who can be trusted. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to trust anyone again.”

Mason laid a soft kiss on her mouth, tugging her bottom lip gently between his teeth. He lifted his face just enough to look at her. In time, he could teach her to trust again, at least to trust him, but it would take patience—and perseverance. He thought she might be worth the effort.

“If you want me to stop,” he told her, “if you really mean it, say ‘apple.’”

Alicia furrowed her brow and blinked before meeting his stare directly. “But I told you to stop.”

“Yes, but you didn’t mean it.” The color rushing into her cheeks proved him right. “I will only stop if you say ‘apple.’ Understand?”

She responded with a single, slow nod, never taking her eyes off him. When he covered her mouth with his, he ran his tongue along the seam of her lips, and she opened for him. He wrapped both arms around her then, holding her tight, and she placed her hands on his shoulders. As his tongue swirled inside her mouth, she leaned against him and released a low, moaning sigh. He allowed the kiss to continue and to deepen, in part because he wanted to prevent her from using the safety word, but primarily because he didn’t want to relinquish her delicious mouth. Although he would never call himself a connoisseur, he could detect the subtle notes of cherry, chocolate, and plum from the wine on her tongue.

About Colette Saucier

Colette Saucier is the bestselling author of Pulse and Prejudice—the paranormal adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic—which retells the story from Mr. Darcy’s point of view as a vampire. Colette was selected a “2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semi-finalist” and Austenprose’s “Debut Author of the Year” for 2012.

Colette has been writing poems, short stories, and novellas since grade school. Her interest in literature led her to marry her college English professor, but eventually a love of history encouraged her to trade up to a British historian. Technical writing has dominated Colette’s career for the past twenty years, but finding little room for creativity in that genre, she dedicated 15 months traveling to Europe and Britain, researching Regency England and vampire lore and literature, to complete her first full-length novel Pulse and Prejudice. She is currently researching and writing a sequel entitled Dearest Bloodiest Elizabeth set in Antebellum New Orleans, as well as the romantic suspense thriller, The Widow.

Colette lives in South Louisiana with her historian husband and their two dogs.
